The 491 Gallery offers to the community a variety of creative, practical & educational workshops.
All of our workshops are open to beginners. We welcome you to come and participate. All of our workshop leaders are happy to answer any queries you may have and can be contacted via their workshop page.

The 491 Gallery has offered community workshops since 2001.
It has been a corner stone of our ethos to offer accessible creative & educational facilities for the community to engage with, hence why our workshops are offered on a donations basis, and all donations contributed go toward facilitating & improving the project.
Through hosting workshops and encouraging the beginning of new workshops, & providing a space to people who want to run their own workshops, we seek to educate, inspire & empower.

Kundalini yoga is a physical and meditative discipline, comprising a set of simple techniques that uses the mind, senses and body to create a communication between 'mind' and 'body'. Kundalini yoga focuses on psycho-spiritual growth and the body's potential for maturation, giving special consideration to the role of the spine and the endocrine system in the understanding of yogic awakening (Sovatsky, 1998).
Kundalini Yoga concentrates on psychic centers or chakras in the body in order to generate a spiritual power,
which is known as kundalini energy.
Kundalini is the potential form of
prana or life force, lying dormant in our bodies. It is conceptualized
as a coiled up serpent (literally, 'kundalini' in Sanskrit is 'That
which is coiled.' (Sanskrit kund, 'to burn'; kunda, 'to
coil or to spiral') but some claim that it should be translated
'lock of hair of the Beloved') lying at the base of our spine, which
can spring awake when activated by spiritual disciplines.

Photoshop/Digital Imagery - Have you got an Image project that
needs the industry standard image software touch or just wanting to
learn and improve your Photoshop skills?
Create a Website with Dreamweaver - With our workshops you can build and create a content rich website for most uses with Dreamweaver or just improve your skills in this ever changing design tool.
Final Cut Pro Film and DVD Production - Have you wanted to
produce your own film? Using Final Cut Pro we can assist in planning
and production of your film project with MP4/DVD authoring.

The life drawing class at the 491 Gallery has been running since 2002 here at the 491 Gallery project, and has attracted many artists from the local area and from
all over London and beyond.
The gallery’s bohemian atmosphere
has been a constant source of inspiration to the life drawing group
and countless interesting and satisfying drawings have been produced
at the class.
The class continues to provide a valuable development
resource for artists, and runs weekly on a donations basis. We
aim to provide a good variety of models and tuition and guidance is
offered.
The class is suitable for beginners and seasoned artists alike.
Some materials and paper is provided, but it is recommended you bring
a sketchbook, partly so it is easier for you to look
back at your drawings
and track your progress!
Improvised comedy workshops for all experiences and abilities.
Every 2nd Sunday evening: 19:00 - 22:00
Improvised comedy, much in the style of Whose Line Is It Anyway. Open
to beginners, just bring your energy! We're more about having fun than
creating memorable art that will withstand the test of ages, so come
along, play some games and enjoy yourself.
