491 Gallery is an evolving Arts Piece, a meta-conceptual living room, a pirate utopia reclaiming neglected land and property and giving something back to the community with a healthy balance of art, regeneration, education, performance, gardening, and diversity of life. tao

Welcome to the 491 Gallery.

Its been a very exciting year here in Leytonstone.
A major clean up of the front & side areas of the property has had a great impact on the + feel of the front of house. This has now been planted with some great colourful flowers using recycled containers & reclaimed earth. Wow, what a difference !!

The inside of the 491 gallery has also had a face lift. It really is looking amazing here.

A great thanks to everyone who helped this project become a reallity.

From the recently formed N.P.S. (under 18's nature & garden interest group) to our new workshops & the fully booked exhibition space & including all the regeneration, Its been a very busy year for everybody here.

We have got involved with the Leytonstone arts trail this year & are also planning this years contribution to the Leytonstone car free day / festival for 2008. Just watch this space ...

Found inside the doors, of this derelict factory were the debris of 8 years of mis-use. Despite the broken windows, rats, and dust, within 2 weeks, the slow and steady clean-up process had begone. While sowing the seeds for this Sustainable Community Regeneration Arts Project.

Regeneration has now included bringing back into use 5 derelict properties and a considerable tract of fly tipped land. 491 Gallery now hosts space for workshops, exhibitions, events, art studio, textile studio, music studio, cinema, dark room, community & permaculture garden, and has been home to many people over the years.

491 Gallery has a growing membership of 'Friends'. We all believe in the power of creative expression and self-responsibility as a key to lasting community regeneration and empowerment.

Loved by many and feared by some we are exploring the possibilities of real community empowerment and urban regeneration, building a bridge towards a new way of land management and holistic community-led development.

491 Gallery started in October 2001 with the great efforts of The Art Organisation.

We are on the seas of change aboard the 491 gallion.

A commutiny in progress.

We are re-building our website, Some parts are only semi up & running:

Please keep coming back, It wont take long!
