This Year we will be part of the Leytonstone Arts
Festival. We will be exhibiting throughout the Festival.

491 Gallery
is an evolving Arts Piece, a meta-conceptual living room, a pirate
utopia reclaiming neglected land and property and giving something
back to the community with a healthy balance of art, regeneration,
education, performance, gardening, and diversity of life.

Found inside the doors, of this
derelict factory were the debris of 8 years of mis-use. Despite
the broken windows, rats, and dust, within 2 weeks, the slow
and steady clean-up process had begone. While sowing the seeds
for this Sustainable Community Regeneration Arts Project.
Regeneration has now included bringing back
into use 5 derelict properties and a considerable tract of
fly tipped land. 491 Gallery now hosts space for workshops,
exhibitions, events, art studio, textile studio, music studio,
cinema, dark room, community & permaculture garden, and
has been home to many people over the years. |
 
491 Gallery has a growing
membership of 'Friends'. We all believe in the power of
creative expression and self-responsibility as a key to
lasting community regeneration and empowerment.
Loved by many and feared by some we
are exploring the possibilities of real community empowerment
and urban regeneration, building a bridge towards a new
way of land management and holistic community-led development.
491 Gallery started in October 2001 with the great efforts
of The Art
Organisation. |
