The 491 gallery is an incredibly versatile place. We offer a space
for artisits of many different mediums to exhibit their work in
a completely unique exhibition space in East London.
Over the years we have had a diverse and exciting
range of art displayed here, some of which can be seen here in our 'exhibitions history' & 'artist

Layers, veils that hide the blessings of a dancing
god.
"He it is, the innermost one, who awakens my being with
his deep hidden touches. "
Rob's artwork discusses in colour and line the fluidity of the
veils of our being. Fundamentally shapes appear; in the process
they grow and take on life, becoming living symbols that seem
to have floated in the consciousness for many years. From the
interpretation of the symbolic to the ritual of expression found
within the sublime moment Rob endeavours to capture in colour
and light the unseen energies that flow within and through life;
inspiring, healing and uplifting us to cosmic and universal
consciousness.
Rob's work has developed over many years of practice since completing
his BA in Printed Textiles at Liverpool Polytechnic in 1987
and in 1989 an MA in Textile Design at Birmingham Polytechnic.
His work covers the mediums of drawings, painting and textiles
with outcomes ranging from 2d works to evocative fabrics and
cutting edge wearable artworks.

An exploration of 'silent phantom matter'
and the true nature of shadows.
'Step beyond the illusion, piercing the veil between the worlds
of reality and dream. Awaken to a plane of timeless, spaceless,
invisible mysteries, where our conditioning fades, inhibition
is relinquished and understanding is gleaned, offering an
opportunity to recognise and embrace the ever present formless
magic of our world.'

"From the day I could make sense of my
sound, I would sing. From the day I could hold a pencils I
would write, draw and paint. From the day I could hold a guitar
I would play. In truth from the moment I drew breath I would
create.
Today I explore colour, light and sound. My interest lies
in the spaces between as much as the possibility of form itself,
working in 2D right through to 6D depending on the viewers
perceptive capability.
Through the medium of intuition, music,
word, clay, iron, acrylic on canvas, paper, metal, fabric
and thread, and more, I live and work to experience, enjoy
and convey the gorgeous-ness and myriad diversity of life.
Inspired by the way light falls and the living nature of shadows…
…I am exposed and in turn expose the shine."
