The
drive to get this achieved was highlighted by the fast approaching Arts Trail & our futher colaberation with them.
We have also had various
friends of the gallery over the years who have been unable to fully appreciate
the space and use it to it’s fullest potential due to
the limitations of the building
as it was.
The work was found to be achievable with the minimum outlay thanks to
the incredible skills of the boys involved in the jobs that needed doing.
The process started with the levelling of our driveway to
the front door-no more bumpy ledges and off-road shoes required.
Max Brill and (Upstairs)Steve did this job on a sweltering Saturday afternoon - thanks guys.
The doorbell has been moved from it’s lofty heights above the front door to a far more comfortable place on the wall
at a height of 2 feet from ground level.
It even has a little blue house around it to protect it from the
weather! Debbie made this happen.
Last but not least the downstairs toilet,
previously a pokey
little room with an anteroom attached to it, has been knocked through to create
one big, fresh, airy toilet with washbasin in the same room.
Steve Ennis & (Upstairs) Steve started this job off with the angle grinder, which then disappeared offsite,
meaning that Jake Lee & James Moriarty finished it off with hammers and
chisels, taking out the middle wall almost entirely.
Debbie helped by rehanging a nice wide door in the two Steve’s, newly widened doorway, & added some grabrails around the toilet (already at a regulation
height) to make it easier to use for everyone.
Last but not least was a new paint job.
A huge thank you for everyones help in achieving this great regeneration project here at 491..
